Learn how to
polish your car & why it is
important
It is important to
polish your vehicles exterior. Polishing removes
imperfections such as scratches, oxidation and spotting.
Polishing helps level the paints surface to give a
lustrous shine.
The reason we can
see scratches in the clear coat because light reflects
off of the edges of the scratches making it stand out
among the rest of the flat surface, when polished
correctly the edges are gently flattened making the paint
look whole. In many cases polishing can remove minor
surface scratches and imperfections. I will go through
the steps you should follow to properly polish your
car.

How to Properly
Polish
Steps:
1. Clay the
surface using high quality detailing
clay
2. Center your
pad properly on the polisher using a centering
tool.
3. Be sure to
spur the pad removing all dirt and dust
particles.
4. Polish, make
sure you do not use anything that is highly
abrasive. Look for something with more wax in
it, especially if you are new to polishing.
Apply a thin line of polish directly to the
paint. Buff the product immediately at low
rpms, try to keep the surface wet or cool while
buffing as this will help prevent paint
burn.
5. Wipe with a
cotton terry cloth.

Waxing is the last step put a
good coat of wax on to protect the clean
finish.

When polishing
make sure you read the directions on each polish, the majority
of the good polishes will inform you what RPM you should be
polishing at for that particular chemical. If you don’t pay
attention to these details you can easily damage the clear coat
or paint.
